Weβre filling our studios with handmade products and opening our doors for this beautifully curated shopping experience to help you shop local and support creative businesses this Christmas! Plan your visit and get the dates in your diary!

Calum Rennie will be taking bespoke framing requests in time for Christmas up until Tuesday 9th December.

DEMO: MELTING PRECIOUS METAL & SANDCASTING
Islay Spalding will be chatting about melting down old jewellery and turning it into new pieces, including a demonstration of melting metal, pouring an ingot to make a workable piece of metal, and sandcasting into a new form. Bring along some old jewellery and she can give you some ideas of what could be done with it.Β

DEMO:Β WET PACKING & FIRING ENAMEL
Gillian Kinsella will be demonstrating the technique of wet packing enamel and creating a gradient using transparent enamels.Β

TALK: THE CRAFTING OF A GOLDSMITH
Larissa Thiel will be joining us to talk about her experiences learning to be a Goldsmith in Germany. Born in Berlin, Larissa completed two apprenticeships at the state academy of fine arts Hanau, then came to Dundee for a residency at DJCAD and stayed to work at the V&A, DCA and DJCAD. Now she lives back in Germany and studies jewellery and tableware at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design, Halle/Saale. She has won the newcomer prize for the 17th Hessian Design Award and got second place for the award #heilig. We are really excited to hear about what she has been working on since being back in Germany!Β

TALK & DEMO: JAPANESE DAMASCENING (NUNOME ZOGAN)
Sandra Wilson will be delivering a talk and hands on demonstration in Japanese Damascening – Nunome Zogan –Β that translates as cloth weave texture. This is a frugal way of working with thin gold foil (0.02mm) without the use of solder. After the talk there will be a brief demonstration of the technique and members of the public can use a hammer and chisels to try this out for themselves. No experience necessary, come along and give it a bash!Β

ENAMELLING WORKSHOP
Christina Vernon will be delivering a hands-on workshop guiding you through the fascinating process of enamelling on copper. During the workshop you will make your own colourful pendant or earrings and learn how to apply the enamels and fire them in a kiln. Perfect for beginners or those with some jewellery experience looking to try out a new skill. Special Open Studios price of Β£65 per person, book at www.christinavernon.co.uk, also bookable on the day if space allows.
